Science Center and Planetarium
An exploration of Structural Expressionism

Bachelor Graduation Project, Mumbai University

Project Overview
Vision

The municipality of Mumbai aims to create a new state of the art Science Center and Planetarium to stimulate curiosity, develop an inquisitive mind, and improve children's understanding of basic scientific principles that also complement the school curriculum. By providing hands on learning experiences using interactive exhibits, science centers are dynamic places for experience and knowledge sharing.
The vision is to make the entire Science Center building function as a science installation by itself. The exposed structural elements, air conditioning systems, plumbing, and electrical show the entire working of a building as an interactive installation.
Inspired by the Structural Expressionist architecture of the late 70's the entire building has an industrial look and feel, exposing all the elements of structure and building services, color-coded in bright colors to differentiate between the various facets that make a building a functional system.
